If you've already visited my other blog....Change In a Bottle, you know what today is....If you haven't, go take a look.
And I'm ok with it. Just wanted to share a little more, yes, another story. But this time it's a memory of what I've been told, not sorting through my own brain..
This is Donna's story....
Halloween night and she and her sister Marie were in the apartment waiting for Trick or Treater's to show up. But not many did so she started eating some of the candy. Heck, she was just a kid herself...16 years old. And she loved chocolate! But if you eat too much of it, well, belly ache time...
So she went back to her own apartment, just down the hall, to lay down and see if she could sleep for awhile. Her husband was out with their brother-in-law doing who knows what... He was Marie's husband and Donna's husbands best friend from childhood. Follow that? Best friends married sisters.
So although she didn't feel good, Donna did drift off to sleep for awhile. Then she woke up with AWFUL pains in her stomach and went back to Marie's. Or maybe I should say she waddled back down the hall to her sisters....yes, she was expecting her first child. Marie told her she didn't think it was just from eating so much candy and called the doctor, got Donna in the car, rode around town to find the guys, and well, you've figured it out already....
In the small town they lived in there was one Hospital, just as small. A two story building with one labor room, one operating room and one ward with a few beds. So happened there was another woman who came in right before Donna. That meant the labor room was already in use. So the doctor and her husband each took a side and carried her in the chair position down the hall to the operating room.
Must say here that all her life Donna only wanted boys...8 of them! No girls, just boys. Marie already had 2 little boys and Donna just knew that's what her first would be. So I wonder what her thoughts were when she looked at her newborn with so much long black hair, so tiny and so FEMALE!
Ok, you know that was me. And the story I've always heard. And why I was such a little Tomboy growing up. And why every birthday, Donna says...
"Happy Birthday Honey...I gave it to you!"
And I love you for it Mom.... Thanks.
And the hospital is still there after ALL these years. But it's now apartments! Oh and she likes to say that I was almost born a WITCH! Maybe that's why it's my choice for a Halloween costume (O:
Have a Great November!!
